Survey Results

  • The Birdwatcher as Ecological Detective: Citizen Science articles on the Dairy Ashford Rookery, Woodpeckers, Doves, The Aerialists, Flycatchers, Thrushes, Putting Science into Citizen Science, and more.

  • Zone Table 2004-2010 (Excel spreadsheet)
The Zone Table summarizes Houston Bird Survey observations of 250 species of birds for Summer (June) 2004 to 2010, and Winter (January) 2005 to 2010 for four geographic zones: Central (bounded by IH10, IH 45, and US 59 downtown), Loop 610 inward to Central), between Loop 610 and Beltway 8, and from Beltway 8 outward to include all of Harris County. The total number of observational sites with each zone for each season is given. For each species, the number of sites within the zone that the species was observed is also provided. The column 'p' is the proportion of the total sites in that zone/season where the species was observed (number of sites/total sites). Some species exhibit an increasing or decreasing trend along the urban-suburban-rural gradient. Those species italicized are extra-territorial species reported from surrounding counties during the surveys but not recorded within Harris County.
