What is Birdathon?

Birdathon is a fundraiser centered on birding. The endurance birding element is a scavenger hunt challenge, in which teams compete to see how many different bird species they can identify in 24 hours or less. The competitive fundraising portion helps Houston Audubon achieve its mission to deliver avian conservation on the Upper Texas Coast. Each team competes to see how much money they can raise — be it single gifts or a specific contribution amount per species seen.

Why Bird through a Thon?

For starters, it provides an opportunity to bird for conservation. Instead of only birding for your own enjoyment, you produce much needed financial support for Houston Audubon’s conservation programs. Half of all money raised will support the Winnie Burkett Intern Fund. The remainder will go to support our annual operations. Our goal is to raise $40,000. You can raise awareness for the birds and conservation by actively communicating with those around you about your efforts to support this noble cause.
