Hummers are back in town
Hummingbirds are back in Houston! Remember to keep your feeders clean and use 4 parts water to 1 part sugar. You do not need a red dye. We are enjoying several hummers fighting over the Turk's Cap at Sims Bayou Urban Nature Center. With the high daily temperatures it is important to change the sugar water at least every other day.

Troop 152 Helps Out
Boy Scout Troop 152, based at St. Jerome's Church in Spring Branch, came out to the nature center on Saturday to help remove debris from the bradford pear tree that came crashing down last weekend. They will be using the limbs to build a lookout tower at their scout house. I really appreciate all their hard work and enthusiasm. The boys and their dads really enjoyed visiting the center and checking out the many eagle scout projects that we enjoy.

Habitat Heroes Save the Planet!
The Habitat Heroes have had a busy week responding to all sorts of eco-emergencies. They retrieved litter from our pond, saved native wildflowers, and even cleaned up trash and oil from a beach with nesting sea turtles! Even though camp is over, the Heroes know that their work is never done. They will use the knowledge they acquired at camp to help them continue to be good stewards of our resources. Special thanks to Mary Anne Weber, Linda DelAngel, Laura Mills and Jeanette Lambert for helping make this camp a huge success!

Habitat Heroes Summer Camp
Habitat Heroes Summer Camp kicked off this week! The campers are energetic and eager to help save the planet from many threats. Today they focused on the forest habitat. They learned about the different layers of the forest, met live forest creatures, and made their own paper from recycled paper. They also saved our huge cottonwood tree from being cut down by a paper company. Good work Habitat Heroes!

A Great Wrap-up to Bird Camp
Everyone earned their wings and graduated from Bird Camp. Knox and Philip proudly displayed their last bit of artwork before flying off to enjoy the rest of their summer! Thanks to Counselors Laura, Jadan, Rachael, and Ryan!
