  Summer Camps at Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary

2014 Camp Counselor Program:
Summer Camp Junior Counselor positions are available (Ages 12-18 – volunteer) – Please email Bethany (bfoshee@houstonaudubon.org)to receive the application. Applications are due Thursday, April 10.

January 15-21: Priority Registration for Houston Audubon Members.
January 22: Open Registration begins for all families.

2014 Summer Camps

2½-5 yr-old Camp

Come Along Camp (SOLD OUT)

Outdoor fun and nature adventure await your eager preschooler and a grown-up chaperone of their choice. Through crafts, forest walks, puppet shows, and story time, your youngest camper will learn about the natural world all around them. For ages 2½-5.
Schedule: May 26-30, 2014, 10 AM - 11:30 AM.

5-10 yr-old Camps

Nature Explorers Camp (SOLD OUT)

Explore nature in a big way this summer! Eco-adventures await you as we uncover the world of wildlife here in our own Bayou City. Hike the trails each day as we investigate our forest’s habitats. Make nature crafts to take home. Catch tadpoles and fish in the ponds and get up close with fascinating native animals. From creeks to peaks, ponds to fronds, and bogs to logs, we’ll uncover the amazing habitats and animals that live in our own backyards.
Schedule: 9 AM - Noon, Monday-Friday. Five sessions in 2014: June 9-13, June 16-20, June 23-27. June 30–July 4, July 7-11

Backyard Bugs Camp (SOLD OUT)

Insects cover our planet, yet many are hiding right under our noses! Spend the week investigating the incredible diversity of earth’s largest group of animals. They creep, crawl, fly, buzz, and flutter all around us. Make bug trappers, build an insectarium, design buggy costumes to wear, and spend lots of time up close with our tiniest backyard neighbors.Docent Camp
Schedule: July 14-18, 2014, 9 AM - Noon, Monday-Friday.

Habitat Hideaways Camp (SOLD OUT)

People live in buildings, but what about our animal neighbors? In this jungle construction camp, we’ll learn how to build like a beaver and nest like a newt! We’ll dig kid-size burrows out in the forest. We’ll spin giant spider webs along the trail. And we’ll create our very own crawfish chimneys around the pond. Join us for the fort-building fun!
Schedule: July 21-25, 2014, 9 AM - Noon, Monday-Friday.

New! Animal Antics Camp (SOLD OUT)

From singing cicadas to dancing dragonflies, we’ll explore the theatrical side of the animal kingdom during this creative, hands-on camp. Campers will design their own wildlife puppet shows and compete in animal karaoke. We’ll act out the lives of animals through science games, costume creation, art projects and imaginative play. Join us for the fun as we explore the amazing adaptations and incredible lives of our native Texas animals.
Schedule: July 28-August 1, 2014, 9 AM - Noon, Monday-Friday.

Docent Camp7-11 yr-old Camp

Pond Camp (SOLD OUT)

For our most daring adventurers, we’ll spend this action-packed week exploring the exciting, underwater world of our creeks, ponds, bays and bayous. We’ll design our own pond aquariums, investigate the animals that live beneath the water’s edge, and explore the hidden habitats of Rummel Creek.
Schedule: August 4-8, 2014, 9 AM - 12:30 PM, Monday-Friday.

11-12 yr-old Camp

Survivor Camp (SOLD OUT)

Do you have what it takes to survive in the wild? We’ll test our nature survival skills as we learn to build shelters, filter our own water, start a fire without a match, cook using the sun, and make a tasty snack from plants (and bugs!) found here in our forest. New this year, we’ll all gather back together on Friday night to test our orienteering skills after dark, camp-out in our shelters, and enjoy a tasty campfire meal!
Schedule: August 11-15, 2014, 9 AM - 12:30 PM, Monday-Friday. Optional Nighttime Camp-Out: Friday, August 15: 6:30-9:30 PM
