Family: (Parulidae) Wood-Warblers

Preferred Habitat: Mature woodlands and swamps with tall trees

Seasonal Occurrence: Common in spring; occasional in summer and fall.

Notes by Susan Billetdeaux: The Yellow-throated Warbler is featured on the logo of the Houston Audubon Society. It appears early in the spring and occasionally breeds in our area where it prefers habitats with abundant Spanish moss. It likes to forage high up in the canopy of trees, where, compared with other warblers, it moves rather slowly and deliberately. Males and females are similar in appearance.

Comments by Don Verser: Note that Yellow-throated Warblers are never common in the fall. [Editor's Note: See the chart of fall occurrence for Yellow-throated Warblers on the Upper Texas Coast, prepared by Don Verser, for more information about fall migration patterns.]
