Family: (Scolopacidae) Sandpipers, Phalaropes and Allies

Preferred Habitat: Creeks, ponds, mudflats.

Seasonal Occurrence: Common August through April.

Notes: Spotted Sandpipers are one of the most common sandpipers to be found in inland locations. In breeding plumage the breast is heavily spotted. Winter birds and juveniles lack the spotting. It is usually found singly. It earned its nickname "Teeter-tail" from its constant bobbing and teetering motions when on the ground.
