Help Wanted!
Our office at Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary is in particular need of volunteers. We need assistance with answering the phones and handling other office tasks. Tasks can be customized to your interests. No special skills required. If you know about birds and birding, this is a great way to share with others. If you don't know much about birds or birding, this is an excellent way to learn. We particularly need volunteers who can commit their time on a weekly basis (either a morning or afternoon a week). |
Volunteers are the lifeblood of Houston Audubon Society. Each one helps make our mission of the conservation of birds and wildlife habitat come alive through the protection of 3,300 acres of habitat on the Upper Texas Coast. Some of the ways you can help:
- Trail Crews maintain native plant gardens, plant trees, maintain trails, mow grass and remove dead vegetation at Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary and Sims Bayou Urban Nature Center. High Island Sanctuaries require trail work and gardening in the fall and early spring.
- Beach Clean-Up at Bolivar Flats Shore Bird Sanctuary in fall and spring (bring your binoculars-birding is allowed!).
- Kiosk Volunteers at Boy Scout Woods greet visitors from all over the world and sell tee shirts and useful birding items during spring migration (late March to early May) (a great birding opportunity for volunteers).

- Education Volunteers assist with outreach classes for children and adults, staff booths at nature festivals, and act as camp counselors at summer camps.
- Administrative Volunteers respond to questions about bird identification and behavior, maintain the Resource Guide of useful information, contacts and products relating to the welfare of birds and habitat, assist staff with various office tasks and research issues that impact birds and their environment.
- Public Relations Volunteers help with press releases and maintain media contact files.
- Audubon Docent Guild Volunteers conduct a variety of events for children and adults at Edith Moore Nature Sanctuary. More information
