Outreach Programs

Discover the natural world of birds and native wildlife with these exciting outreach programs from the Houston Audubon Society.

  • Programs may feature live birds of prey and other animals, hands-on displays, slides, bird and animal recordings.
  • Programs run 45 minutes to an hour; shorter shows are available for younger audiences.
  • There is no charge for Title 1 schools.
  • Fee Schedule: $100.00 for weekday morning and afternoon programs; $150.00 for programs beginning at 5 PM or later and on weekends.
  • Our programs are very popular. To avoid disappointment please call at least 2 months (if not longer) in advance of your program request date. We are typically booked for spring programs by the end of January. Do not hesitate to reserve dates well ahead of time.

Programs

Available topics include:

  • Wild About Houston
    Lurking up in the trees, slithering through the grass, and sneaking around the ponds, there are amazing creatures living and surviving in the big city of Houston, Texas. Learn about the diversity of animal life in the Bayou City. Meet live examples from the different animal kingdoms.
  • By the Light of the Moon
    Explore the world of bats and other fascinating creatures that come out when the sun goes down. Meet some live nocturnal creatures and learn about the amazing bats of Texas.
  • Silent Hunters
    Explore the world of owls. Learn all about their adaptations for survival, where they live, and what they sound like. Meet live owls and dissect some owl pellets.
  • Birds of the Bayou City
    Soaring over our city parks and nesting in our backyards are an amazing array of birds. Discover why Houston is one of the birdiest cities in the country. Learn all about what makes a bird a bird. Meet live birds.
  • Amazing Plants
    Explore the amazing diverse world of plants and find out how these "green machines" are critical for our life on earth. Meet some really cool plants! (3rd grade and up)
  • Bayou Buddies (Early Learners Program)
    Pick from a variety of topics for your young readers. Whether it is armadillos or hummingbirds, your audience will learn about native wildlife, sing songs, read stories, and enjoy a fun craft. Please call for program topics.
  • World of Extremes
    Get extremely big and extremely small as we search the globe for natures biggest and smallest members. We will discover plants and animals that really amaze us all and learn about their unique adaptations for survival.
  • Birds in Mythology, Legend, and Storytelling
    Hear stories from around the world as we explore birds in mythology and legend. Meet live birds and some great books to add to your summer reading list.
