- No Child Left Inside: Houston Audubon is proud to be a member of the No Child Left Inside Coalition. The coalition is a broad-based organization made up of more than 175 member groups from across the United States, who represent tens of millions of members. The NCLI Coalition speaks for a diverse group of Americans who believe young people should receive a strong education about their natural world.
The Coalition’s focus is passage of the federal No Child Left Inside Act. This legislation would authorize major new funding for states to provide high-quality, environmental instruction. Funds would support outdoor learning activities both at school and in non-formal environmental education centers, teacher training, and the creation of state environmental literacy plans. For more information and ways to help, please consult the NCLI website.
Educator Workshops
Houston Audubon Society provides teacher training on two valuable resources:
- Citizens’ Guide to Migration and the Migratory Birds of the Bayou City
- Flying WILD (new from the creators of Project WILD)
Each workshop provides hands-on training on the most effective use of these two manuals. Flying WILD is an exciting new education program that introduces students to bird conservation through school bird festivals, hands-on classroom activities, and community service projects. The Citizens’ Guide introduces students to the marvels of migration and the migratory birds of Texas.
Workshops are for both formal and non-formal educators at all grade levels. Upon completion of the training, participants receive copies of both manuals (over 700 pages of information combined) and additional teaching resources.
Educators receive credit toward Continuing Professional Education requirements as set by SBEC and TEEAC credit.
For more information and to be placed on a notification list for the upcoming schedule of workshops, please contact Mary Anne Weber by e-mail or telephone 713-640-2407.
