Sims Bayou Urban Nature Center: The Emery/Weiner High School — January, 2008

Emery/Weiner High School at SBUNCDuring the first full week of January, volunteers from The Emery/Weiner High School donated over 300 hours of service to the Sims Bayou Urban Nature Center. The students reported to the center daily and performed labor intensive tasks such as moving concrete blocks, clearing brush, weeding, hauling granite, and distributing mulch to create our new natural play area. It was amazing to see the grounds being dramatically transformed over such a short period of time. We are extremely grateful for their efforts and would like to thank all the students and faculty who gave their time and energy to improving the nature center. Some of those individuals are: Matt Bronstein, Jacqueline Celh, Becca Cohen, Tamara Cohen, Jacob Christie, Justin Doody, Seth Finkelman, Josh Gross, Duncan Hasell, Tomer Leibonite, Keith Myers, Jason Podolniek, Greg Potylchansky, Adam Rauch, Megan Rosenthal, Alex Sacks, Chris Spadore, Jacob Tannenbaum, David Tomlinson, Kat Viele, Tyler Walker

Sims Bayou Urban Nature Center: Fall 2007

October SBUNC VolunteersThe MOB (Mustang Outreach Bunch) from Memorial High School came to provide community service at Sims Bayou Urban Nature Center on September 29. Gary Woods, thirteen students, and two teachers worked hard for three hours to renovate gardens and trails. They helped with numerous projects including the renovation of our vegetable gardens, clearing trails of debris, and weeding our habitat gardens. We appreciate all the hard work these young students have provided for us.

Ten members of the Houston Zoo Conservation Crew and eighteen students from YES College Prep also spent a Saturday at SBUNC in October. They worked hard moving a truck load of dirt and mulch into the gardens, cleared trails, and organized closets. We are so grateful to have all this amazing help.
