An effort is underway to support reauthorization and increased funding for the Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act (NMBCA), a key bird conservation act that supports partnership programs to conserve and protect migratory birds. Legislation has been introduced in the House of Representatives to reauthorize the act at significantly higher levels, and the American Bird Conservancy has launched an Act for Songbirds campaign to support that effort. According to ABC, programs under the NMBCA have supported 225 projects in 44 U.S. states/territories and 34 other countries, and more than $21 million from NMBCA grants have leveraged $95 million in partner contributions, benefitting approximately 3,000,000 acres of bird habitat. Houston Audubon supports the reauthorization and increase in funding for the North American Bird Conservation Act and encourages participation in American Bird Conservancy’s Act for Songbirds campaign. See the page on the American Bird Conservancy website for more information about the act and how you can support it.
