Romeo is a young Barred Owl whooooo recently joined the feathered education team. Romeo was found on the ground in Lake Jackson. He was being fed by his parents but had an obvious wing injury. After the rescue it was discovered that his wing had an old humeral fracture that was not repairable. He is busy getting used to giving presentations at schools, libraries, and at the Sims Bayou Urban Nature Center. He thinks he is very tough and has a great personality. Falling out of the nest when you are branching is a common problem for Barred Owls. Their wing feathers grow first and they are quite wobbly as they explore their tree home. Romeo must have fallen from the tree and injured his wing. It healed before he was found but unfortunately did not heal correctly. A large owl of extensive woodlands, the Barred Owl is familiar for its distinctive, if not quite Shakespearean, "who-cooks-for-you, who-cooks-for-you-all" hooting.
