Cinnamon Teal (Anas cyanoptera)

Bird Gallery Index

Cinnamon Teal

Cinnamon Teal at Hermann Park
image © Joseph Kennedy

Family: (Anatidae) Ducks, Geese, and Swans

Preferred Habitat: Ponds.

Seasonal Occurrence: Common October through April.

Notes: Male Cinnamon Teals are brilliantly colored with bright cinnamon red heads and bodies. Females have muted gray and brown plumage. Both sexes have light blue wing patches which are prominent in flight. Compared with our more common Green-winged and Blue-winged Teals, Cinnamon Teals have unusually long bills. In recent years Hermann Park has been a very reliable close-in location to find them.
