Family: (Hirundinidae) Swallows

Preferred Habitat: Open country

Seasonal Occurrence: Common in spring; uncommon in summer. Nests in our area.

Notes: Cliff Swallows prefer to nest under bridges, culverts and similar structures, preferably close to water. They are very social and usually found in groups. Their short, square-tipped tails are a qood identification mark. The Houston Bird Survey has more information and a distribution map for Cliff Swallows.
